Year Long Update

Bad News, Days

Wow, its been an incredibly long time since my last post and I apologize for that. A lot has happened and I honestly have been trying to get myself together again. My father passed away last year in March, which besides dealing with my own feelings, I first had to figure out funeral arrangements, mortuary arrangements, credit cards, paperwork's and on the side stressing about not having a job, along with other things has been incredibly draining on me physically, mentally and emotionally. Its extremely tough to pretty much get rid of an existence to that degree. I had to stop modeling for most of last year. The stress really did damage to my health from not being able to sleep for weeks, to having shoulder- arm pains and a lot of weight loss. My brother had just went off to college 7 months before my dad passed away as well. Going from a family of 4 to just 2 in the house made me very lonely and the change was too much to bear. A summer with my brother back home, my friends and some time to focus on myself has been very helpful. There's still work to be done regarding my dads stuff but I'm learning to take it one at a time and in small steps.

Modeling Update

I finally feel I can get back into my models and move on, somewhat, with my life to the best of my abilities. Still trying to find a job full time as a 3D Modeler, but in the meantime as of the end of last year, I have been fortunate enough to be a part of a small indie team currently working on releasing a Kickstarter Campaign to fund our sci-fi tactics style RPG PC video game titled The Eighth Day. I work as the Environment/Props Modeler, I also handle all the weapons and some of the armors. Its been a great production environment for me to work on and I thoroughly enjoy it. I have realized I really love creating worlds and props for video games and the process and aftermath is so satisfying. Here's one of the models I created for the game! You can check out www.newchaptergames.com for more information about the game itself. The website itself is still in its rough stages so please don't mind! You can also find some other models I have done over at my website www.julieshah.weebly.com. I also post a lot of progress/finished work on my Instagram- juliesart.

Also, here is another model I have been working on, on the side whenever I have time in between working on the game. This model is based on a concept art of the Hunchback of Notre Dame by Mr. Scott Caple. His concept was so inspiring I just had to try and model it! Its still a work in progress but hopefully I'll have some time to finish this up soon.

Crochet Bunnies

I did also go to Designer Con last November, which was a good break for me actually. My friend Angela Song had a booth there and was gracious enough to let me have some space on her table in order to sell some crochet bunnies I had made. Crocheting was really relaxing for me almost like mediating and not having to think about anything lingering in my mind. By the way, I still have some available so, if you want one, please just shoot me an email at julie.shah.5@gmail.com with the color of your choice. Each bunny is $25 free shipping through Paypal. :3

Sorry again for the long absence! I'll keep pushing and keep modeling to reach my goal of becoming a 3D Modeler (hopefully I'll land in the video game industry!). I'll try to keep posting as often as possible as well. :3 Thanks everyone and take care!

New Contest Entry

It's been quite busy for me lately, so sorry for the late update! D: I have been working on the textures for the 'Nite on Town' Model I last did. It's been quite a challenge because this model is really pushing me to do my best in texturing and presentation, which I honestly love because I am growing as a 3D Artist. I'm learning lots of things I didn't know before! :)

Besides that model, I have also been working on a commission 3D Character Model for a friend of mine based off her comic series. That has been going great! I haven't done a character model in a while but I have noticed I have become a lot faster at it then before! I thoroughly enjoy 3D modeling a concept artists piece of work, be it props, characters or a whole scene ( I love scenes and props! <3 ). I'll post more about it after I'm done!

Lastly, I have entered my Nightmare Before Christmas, Mayors Hearse Model in the 'Humster 3D Vehicle Competition'. A lot of real life car models have been entered but they also accepted make believe ones as well. So please go vote for me!

You can vote by hitting the 'Like' Button or Tweet button if you have a twitter account at this page: http://humster3d.com/2013/11/13/mayor-car/

Thank you everyone! <3

Night On Town 3D Model

Hi everyone!

Here is my newest model that I created on Autodesk Maya. This is the Ambient Occlusion Render of Nicole Gustaffson's Night On Town Gouache Painting. I have been a fan of her work for a while now since one of my friends introduced me to her work on Instagram. (Thank you Angela Song!) When I first saw this painting I instantly wanted to 3D Model it. It seemed different from your general concepts that would be used to make 3D rendition of. Nicole was kind enough to let me use this in my portfolio (with credit to her work of course) and also re-posted this 3D Model of her art, along with my information, on her websites. She even follows me on Instagram now! :D Thank you so much!

At the moment, I am in the middle of the UVing process and soon I will be texturing this! Now, I hope to do her justice and get the look to match her artwork.

Oil Barrel Model

Class has been keeping me busy, but it's definitely worth it! I am learning a ton from Professor Brett Briley. I think I have almost grasped the concept and techniques of 3D Max.

One of my assignments for this class was to model a High Poly and Low poly version of an Oil Barrel, which then had to have textures on it. I will also be making a nice Model Sheet for all of the Models done in class afterwards, but here's a quick look!

Happy Valentines!

Happy Valentines Day, everyone!
Here's a 3D model I am working on. It's still in progress and I honestly don't know when I'll have time to continue and make it look pretty.

In Progress

I've been busy since my 3D class started at The Art Department. Trying to learn 3D Studio Max for class and at the same time modeling my first assignment that is due soon! I really have a lot of hopes for this class, because I am anxious to learn and grow a lot as a modeler! The professor sounds tough, but awesome at the same time because I understand he's only being critical in order to have us improve. ^^ Working in 3D Max has proved to be a bit of a challenge since I'm trying to learn the program at the same time, but it only reminds me of how I first started out with Maya. So I plan on improving as much and as fast as I can. :3 Wish me luck!

Happy Valentines!
Anyways, I hope everyone has had/continuing to have a wonderful Valentines day! <3 Happy Valentines once again!

Late Update!

Random doodle while I was sick
So sorry I haven't been on for a while! D: I've been very sick on and off and busy as well. I was researching a lot and looking up tutorials to help me improve as a 3D Artist. Lately, I have been helping out with a fan-game project, but can't really say anything about that just yet..I don't think, I'll get back to you on that! ^^; I'm learning a lot of cool new things though!

One cool news, I had entered a 3D Modeling Contest by The Art Department and DeviantArt called The Train Your Brain Challenge. I decided to enter my Art Nouveau Building Model, low and behold I was one of the 20 contestants that won 3rd place! I won a free online class of my choice at The Art Department! I will be taking their 3D I class focused on specifically hard surface, organic, and prop/environment modeling. As a mainly self taught 3D Artist, I am hoping to gain a lot of knowledge with this class. Thank you DeviantArt and The Art Department!

Anyways, I have also been posting my work on Instagram for a while now, my username: juliesart.

Finally, I have been going back and drawing a lot more, which I really should be doing more often anyways. I have a few idea's for some new models, so hopefully I'll chuck those out soon. :3

Mayor's Car Textured

Finally got around to texturing the Mayor's car from Nightmare Before Christmas! So many things happened all at once, so I didn't have time to work on anything D,: Like..water leaking in my carpet right next to my computer..;_; Seems like everything is fine for now so I jumped on quickly to get some work done. Happy to say that I learned a few new things and improving on my textures. Must keep going!

I am quite happy with the results~

The Mayor of Halloweentown's Ride

It's October and that could only mean one thing..Halloween! And when we think of Halloween, of course the first thing that pops into people's minds..or at least mine, is Tim Burton's, Nightmare Before Christmas. I thought it would be really cool to model The Mayor's awesome car in celebration of this holiday. It was so much fun modeling something so unique looking!
Here is the Occlusion Render of the model. More to come!

'T Bootje building in Antwerp

It's been a while! I am happy to say that I finally finished my building model. This building is called   " 'T Bootje" located in Antwerp, Belgium. Art Nouveau Style.

This was a challenge for me, because I have never modeled something with this degree of detail. Art Nouveau is a style that has grown on me ever since my friend, Angela Song, recommended it to me when I was trying to find something unique to model. So thank you Angela! I can't wait to texture this..along with the rest of my pieces haha.

Steampunk Gun

Steampunk gun modeled in Autodesk Maya. This was such an interesting design, I just had to go at it and start modeling! I tried applying some basic textures and rendered it out in MentalRay. I think it came out rather nice with the help of my Maya Professor. Definitely going to learn texturing better!

3D Motorcycle

One of my first models I attempted when I decided to go into 3D Modeling. Truly it was a challenge but that made me even more excited to finish it! My lighting has gotten better then before I have to say, now on to the next task, texturing! :D

Luma and 1UP Toys

Crocheting has become one of my favorite hobbies since about 2 years ago. I love it! It's so much fun creating and attempting to make your own toys! One of my very first attempts at crocheting was my Green Luma and 1UP mushroom toys. Few challenges here and there but the outcome came out rather nice. :3

Mmm..Tarts

Another 3D Model! This time, chocolate tarts with raspberries~ :D I might as well model a whole tray full of delicious sweets..actually..might just do that. Lol. The room environment that the tarts are placed in still need work actually, so just a sneak peak! Enjoy!
